Ms. Cora L. Holly

Cora Lee Holly, 72, of Peoria, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at OSF Medical Center, surrounded by her family. Cora was born on August 14, 1948, to J.W. Carter and Jettie (Jones-Carter) Ferrell in Blue Mountain, Mississippi. She married Benny Holly in June 1963. Cora was the Matriarch of her family and many family members relocated to Peoria because of her. She reeled each one of them to the North, she housed them took care of them until they were able to live on their own. Cora was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandkids. She was a God-fearing woman and loved going to church with her family. Cora was a mother to many and a great best friend to others. Cora was very generous and would give the clothes off her back. She loved her family and her extended family, some of whom she helped raise. Cora opened her home and heart to many who had no place to live. Cora leaves to cherish her most precious memory: her daughter; Cherry (Rob) Turner of Peoria, IL; four sons: Overseer Terry (Rhonda) Holley, Eric Holly, Steve Holly, and Carlos Holly all of Peoria, IL; sisters: Ruth Pierre of Chicago, IL, Fay (Alfred) Carter, Eloise (Freddie) Traylor, Missionary Robin Carter, and Carolyn (Hubert) Earl all of Peoria, IL; 15 grandchildren: Terry Bennett, Aaron Holley, Tierra Malone, Ameir Holley, Teressa Holly-Moore, Brittany Harris, Tierra Moss, Katrina Linwood, Shazz Holly, Darquez Bonner, Ronnie "RJ" Franklin, Alize Holly, Marley Holly, and Kyrie Holly; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She enjoyed laughing and sharing good times with her good friends William and Lillie Booker. Cora is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter: Sherry Holly; one sister: Helen Pannell; one grandson: Avi Nunn. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Church of the Living God LBLC at 1703 N. Linn St, Peoria, IL 61604 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Homer Henry Jr. will host, Bishop Kevin Hill will officiate, and her son Overseer Terry Holley will give the Eulogy.
