Mr. Eric W. Davis

Eric Wayne “Black E” Davis, born on February 7, 1975, to Terry Ann Davis and Emanuel Coates in Peoria, Illinois, transitioned to Glory on Saturday, August 2, 2025. Eric accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age attending Rising Sun Christian Church where he participated in BYF (Baptist Youth Fellowship) and sang in the choir. Eric graduated from E. N. Woodruff High School in Peoria, Illinois, in 1993, and Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Business. His love for music expanded into various genres with the focus on R & B, and Hip-Hop. He was the founder and CEO of NITTY GRITTY Records, where he wrote and produced hit records such as C.O.P. Playazz “Uncontrolled Substance” and a fan favorite Black Crusaders “We Gets Em’ Heated.” Eric loved to travel. His last employment was truck driving across the country. Eric’s passion was his family. He loved getting together for family barbeques and playing cards, he also loved going to the beach. He had his own sense of style that was matched by none. Eric was preceded in death by his mother, Terry Davis, his siblings, Tanoa Davis, Arnisha Davis, Karlissa Davis, and Frank Suggs, his maternal grandparents Clarence and Josephine Hobbs, his paternal grandparents Willie and Elizabeth Coates, and several aunts and uncles. Eric leaves behind to cherish his memory of his father: Emanuel (Kara) Coates; stepfather: Rodge Travis; children: Eteraka Davis, Kaizon Davis, and Jerimiah Davis of Peoria, Illinois; Kyairla Davis, Imani Davis, Nia Davis, and Emmanuel Davis of Orlando, Florida; and Royalty Davis of Indianapolis, Indiana. Amir Matthew, Annie Atkins, Tanqueria Willford, and Arthea Coleman.; siblings; His beautiful grandchildren Eterion Burnside, Lakota Owens, and Journee; a special aunt: Patricia Davis, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Among those closest to him were special friends Antwaun Banks, Tony Stuckey, Kenzo Irby and Keiya Robertson. Eric lived life to the fullest, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by all his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Minister Artilla Kasaru will officiate. Arrangements were made especially for the “Davis” family and professionally directed by T.W.
