Mr. John Linel Hayes Jr.

John Linel Hayes Jr., 53, departed this life on Monday, November 25, 2024, at his childhood home. John was born on February 27, 1971 to John Linel Hayes Sr. and Virgil Lee (Ellison) Hayes in Peoria, IL. John excepted Christ at an early age at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. John L. Gordon. In 1990 he graduated from Notre Dame High School. He then went to DeVry University to further his education. John was employed at OSF Hospital where he retired from after becoming disabled. John enjoyed watching football, WWE wrestling, listening to music, watching movies, and old sitcoms that he grew up watching when he was young. John also loved to spend time with his family. John is survived by his loving mother Virgil L. Hayes of Peoria; three sons: Brandon Tyreece-Duane Johnson-Hayes of Killeen, TX, Akai John Hayes and Isaac Leroy Hayes both of Peoria; two grandchildren: Jade Renee Johnson and Alana Joy Johnson of Killeen, TX; two sisters: Berlyn (James) Garner of Peoria and Johnnie Mae Hampton of Milwaukee, WI; a special nephew: Ja’Keem O. Garner of Peoria; one aunt: Ora Mae McGowan of Shiloh, TN; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly. John is preceded in death by his father: John Linel Hayes Sr.; one sister: Lorna Lee Hayes of Peoria; paternal grandparents: Signear Hayes and Leola Christine Reed; maternal grandparents: Willie and Geneva Ellison. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Sovereign Grace M.B.C. (1505 W. Martin Street Peoria, IL 61605) at 10:00 a.m. with visitation commencing one hour prior at 9:00 a.m. Rev. Alvin Riley Sr., Pastor will officiate and bring words of comfort.
