Deacon Daniel L. Garman Sr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Deacon Daniel L. Garman Sr. (Dan), 84, of Peoria departed this life on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 8:45p.m. He was born the fourth sibling to John Bunyon and Lubertha Bell Garman on June 17, 1938, in Independence, LA. Deacon Dan spent his early years growing up in Louisiana where he was educated in Independence, LA school system. He then enlisted in the Army and served honorably. Deacon Dan was employed as a Cement Finisher with Operative Plasters and Cement Mason Local Union 18 under Becker Brothers Construction Company in Peoria for more than 40 years. Deacon Dan was a saved Christian where he devoted his time as a Head Deacon at Emmanuel Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Emmet Hinton. Deacon Dan’s favorite hobbies were morning trips to McDonald’s and watching Court TV. He enjoyed spending time with his family whom he loved dearly. He cherished his daily talks with his nephew Roger Smith. He will be missed by all. Deacon Dan leaves to cherish his precious memory: three daughters: Abigail Barnett, Monica (Gary) Haynes both of Peoria, IL, and Flora (Willie) White of Chicago, IL; two sons: Daniel (Beth) Garman Jr. and John Garman Sr. both of Peoria, IL; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly. Deacon Dan was preceded in death by parents: John Bunyon and LuBertha Bell Garman; wife: Edna White- Garman; one son: Ricky Pitts; two brothers: Hilton Garman and Milton Garman; four sisters: Lovie Thompson, Elouise Garman Steptoe, Ora Lee Finn, and Lizzie Collins; two. grandsons: Daniel L. Garman III and Johnathan Mills. A Celebration of Life Service for Deacon Dan will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. at Pilgrim Progress C.O.G.I.C. (3033 W. Marquette Street Peoria, IL 61605) with visitation commencing one hour prior at 11:00 a.m. Elder James W. Rodgers will host, and Pastor Emmet Hinton will present the Eulogy. Deacon Dan will be laid to rest at Parkview Cemetery (2001 N. University Street Peoria, IL 61604)
