Mr. Dennis Walter Silas Sr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On Wednesday September 16, 2020 Dennis took his spiritual flight home to be with the lord. He was surrounded by his family in Peoria Illinois. Dennis Walter Silas Sr. aka “Silky”, “Bus” and “Can man”was born July 26, 1948 in Westchester County White Plains, New York. He was the son to the late Cindy Leggett and Walter Silas. He was joined in holy matrimony to the late Deborah Howard Silas. This union was blessed with 4 children Yvette SilasNelsonJames, Valeska Silas-Nelson, Dennis Silas-Nelson and Ladell Silas-Nelson (deceased). He was a devoted husband and father for 8 years until his divorce in which he remarried Mary Hampton who had 2 daughters Rebecca (Neicy) Hampton and JaQuania (Quana) Hampton. At a early age he attended Calvary Baptist Church in White Plains New York, he attended Sunday school and sang on the youth choir. Dennis attended White Plains High School in White Plains, New York where he was an exceptional student at the top of his class. He also attended New York School for the Arts in Manhattan, New York. Dennis served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. “Silky” was very artistic with many talents, he was a comedian, singer, dancer, artist, poet, writer and author of 2 books. “One Way” and “I am going to be somebody”. He loved Jazz, R&B and Pop music. Dennis was well known and pleasant to everyone he came in contact with. He loved his family and friends. With all of his success and failures in life he never gave up, he was a man of God who kept his faith. He will truly be missed. His survivors include his children Yvette SilasNelsonJames, Valeska Silas-Nelson, Dennis Silas-Nelson. His grand children Rontasia Mitchell, Tamesha Kimble, TajLada Silas-Nelson, Jared Silas-Nelson, Anysah Silas-Nelson, Kishaya Lewis, and Sean Kelly. His great grandchildren Cardin Gaskin, Xiani Johnakin and Kairo Williams: 6 step grandchildren; 8 step-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Whom will miss him dearly. A Visitation service will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at T. W. Parks Colonial Chapel from 10:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. Due to COVID - 19 mandates social distancing and masks are required. Interment is Private
