Ms. Dorothy Porter

Our Dear Mother, Dorothy Mae (Catenhead) Hayes Porter, 88, of Peoria departed this life on February 9, 2024, at Carle Health Methodist Hospital at 8:35a.m. Dorothy was born on April 6, 1935, in Wyatt, MO., raised by her grandmother Janie Adams and was an only child. She worked at Methodist Hospital and retiring after 35 plus years of service. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and at her departure was a member of Mt Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Cherry. She loved fashion and dressing up, soul food restaurants, traveling, watching movies, entertainment, attending OSF Senior World, doing word search puzzles, playing Bingo, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Dorothy leaves to cherish her precious memory 3 sons: Carthel Hayes Jr., Gary Hayes of Peoria, and Frederick (Toyia) Hayes of Chicago, 2 daughters: Phyllis Hayes-Russell of Brooklyn Center, MN, and Maria Gulley of Peoria; 15 grandchildren Crystal (Abazie) Ehiemere, Jayetan Hayes, Shantel Hayes, Sharice Brown, Gari Patterson, Reginald (Tanika) Stone, Tia (James) Hayes Burley, Alisha (Lish) Wallace, Anthony (Tony) Gulley Jr, L’Trice Gulley, Paris Gulley, Frederick Hayes Jr, Marcus Washington, Imani Hayes and Tamia Hayes. A host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, sister-in-law Faye Renee Douglas and best friends of over 40 plus years Fannie Allison and Leona McAfee who will miss her dearly. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, grandmother Janie Adams, love of her life Carthel Hayes & 2nd love Ernest Porter Jr, sons-in-law Anthony Gulley Sr & Albert Russell, daughter-in-law Delores Morrison Brown, brothers-in-law Michael Adams & Darius Buckley, sisters-in-law Deborah (Dee) Jackson & Francine Knox, 1 great granddaughter, 1 great grandson and 1 great-great grandson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Faith Tabernacle COGIC (3331 N. Finnell Ave. Peoria, IL 61604) 10:00 a.m. with visitation commencing one hour prior at 9:00 a.m. Elder Felton Beck Jr. will present words of comfort. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Swan Lake Cemetery following. Arrangements were made especially for the “Hayes-Porter” family and professionally directed by T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel.
