Reverend Edgar Dunigan Sr.

Reverend Edgar Dunigan Sr., 86, transitioned to his Heavenly home on Friday, September 22nd at 4:00 a.m. at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospital Home in Peoria, Illinois. Edgar was born on June 1st, 1937, in West Memphis, AR., to L.A. Dunigan Sr. and Geneva Range. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1955 and was on active duty until 1957 then served in the Reserve until 1963. He married the love of his life Margret Virginia Dunigan on December 2, 1952. They were married for 68 years until her death in April of 2022. “The world don’t owe you nothing.” was one of Dad’s favorite quotes. There’s no other way to give a glimpse into the person our dad was. He was strong and complex with no filter. He gave us love as he understood it. Maybe that’s what grace and redemption is supposed to be. Reverend Edgar Dunigan Sr. would become a supervisor at Dixon Fish Market and work at Caterpillar for 15 years, serving as a Union Steward. He also worked as a correctional officer for several years. His greatest accomplishment outside of being a loving husband and father was serving as Pastor of Love and Faith Missionary Baptist Church for over forty years until his health declined. He leaves his children, Eddie Dunigan Sr of Peoria, IL., Cheryl Dunigan (Steve Ellis) of Peoria, IL., Margret Fortune (Tim Fortune deceased), Ronda Dunigan of Peoria, IL., Edgar Dunigan Jr.(Mary) of Indianapolis, IN., Edward Norris (Atla) of Peoria, IL., Michelle (Koatha) Drain of Peoria, IL., Tina Dunigan of Peoria, IL., Bertha Kimber of Peoria, IL., Eric (Sonia) Dunigan of Peoria, IL., Darrell (Kimberly) Dunigan of Chicago, IL., Minister Terrence (Ja'Shawnda) Dunigan of Peoria, IL, Robert Dunigan of Chicago, IL., and Lee Dunigan of Indiana. Edgar also leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends to cherish his precious memory. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Margret, his children Cora Hogan, Ronald Dunigan, and John Dunigan and his grandchildren, Benny Green Jr., Latreka Dunigan, Terrence Dunigan Jr., and his great granddaughter, Taneka Davis. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Sovereign Grace M.B.C. at 10:00 with visitation commencing one- hour prior at 9:00 a.m. Pastor Michael Watson will present the eulogy. Edgar will be laid to rest at The Historic Springdale Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented. Services were professionally entrusted and arranged by T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel.
