Hilbert H. Burrell

November 26, 1919 - January 3, 2017

Hilbert H. Burrell 97, of Peoria, IL passed away on January 03, 2017 at 4:06 a.m. at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. He was born on November 26, 1919 in Chicago IL to the late Virgil and Elizabeth Burrell. Hilbert married Canary (Jones) Burrell on October 26, 1942 in Peoria she survives. Hilbert lost his parents at a young age and was raised by his grandmother, Annie Burrell. He attended The New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his late brother-in-Love Rev. Dr. Calvin Hightower. He was a past Commander of the American Legion Post 1151 and also a member of the Progressive Golf Club where he was an avid golfer. He worked at Hiram Walker & Sons, Inc. and retired after 33 years of service prior to the Peoria plant closure. Hilbert served in the US Army during WWII and was Honorable discharged with 2 Bronze Stars for New Guinea Northern Solomons Campaigns and a Good Conduct Medal. Also surviving are two; children Sharon Y. Burrell and Elder Michael (Missionary Glenda) Burrell, a host of Grand, Great Grand, and Great- Great Grandchildren and of other family members and friends. In addition to his parents and grandmother he was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Services will be held on Tuesday January 17, 2017 at 12:00p.m. at T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel with visitation commencing one hour prior. Bishop Timothy Criss will officiate. Interment will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
