Omer Miles Moore Jr., 81, of Peoria transitioned from this life on September 3, 2021 at Generations Nursing Home at 5:30 a.m. Omer Miles Moore Jr. was born on July 4, 1940 to the late Omer Miles Moore, Sr. and Ada Alberta (Washington) Moore of Memphis, Tennessee. Omer was the 2nd of 8 children. Omer attended Peoria High School in Peoria, IL, where he was a kicker and linebacker. He was introduced to Dorothy Carter by his sister, Bessie in high school and married her on December 30, 1962. Together they had three children, Omer Michael, Michelle Elaine, and Marcella Felicia. Omer and Dorothy established their print shop business, Zip Reproduction, and ran it full time until his retirement from Flemming and Potter Printing Company. Omer attended Mt. Sinai Seventh Day Adventist Church for many years. A man of many hobbies and talents, Omer was a semi-pro golfer, he loved fishing and traveling. You could always find him at the YMCA and later at the golf course. One accomplishment that Omer was most proud of was being a member of the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World - Peter H. Clark Lodge #483. Omer served in the capacity of Exalted Ruler He belonged to Council #103, also IL-Wisconsin State Association. He was also Past State President, Past Grand Exalted Ruler and A Lifetime member of Peter H Clark Lodge #483. He leaves behind a host of stories and fond memories for: Wife Dorothy Moore, Aunt Jewell Jangdharrie of Audubon, PA; three children Omer Michael (Michelle) Moore III, and Michelle Elaine Moore of Clarksville, TN, Marcella Felicia (Dean Sr.) Rutherford of Madison, TN; Godson Edmond M. Lacy of Peoria, IL; 8 grandchildren Courtney (Karl) Goss, Felicia Moore and Njia (Frank Sr.) Cummings all of Springfield, IL, Thomas Moore of Peoria, IL, Andre (Joi) Rutherford of Nashville, TN, Jeremy Rutherford (military), Dean Rutherford Jr. and Dayja Rutherford of Madison, TN; three great grandchildren; Frank Cummings Jr., Moon Rutherford and Alana Goss; two brothers, Benjamin A. (Jacqueline) Moore of Philadelphia, PA, Joseph E. (Tessie) Moore and two brothers-in-law Norman Powe of Philadelphia PA and Gilbert F. Coble, Sr. of Woodbury, NJ. He leaves two cousins close to his heart; Thelma (George) Springs and Nancy (Herbert) Hawthorne as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Homer Moore; four sisters: Mary Ellen Powe, Bessie Estelle Coble, Jewell Marie Lacy Beverly Sue Watson, and one brother-in-law Ralph Watson; one sister-in-law: Avis Moore Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at New Cornerstone Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with visitation commencing one-hour prior at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Mark McConnell will host and bring the Eulogy. Acknowledgements and flowers can be received at New Cornerstone Baptist Church at 3609 W. Harmon Hwy Peoria, IL 61604. Due to COVID-19 mandates masks are required. Omer will be laid to rest at Swan Lake Cemetery.
