Ms. Ada Alberta Johnson

Ada Alberta Johnson, 78, of Peoria, Illinois passed away, August 16, 2025, at OSF Saint Francis Hospital, in her hometown. Born, September 13, 1946, in Cleveland, Mississippi, Ada was the 2nd child of many between Ruby Lee Jackson (Pittman) and Eddie Lee Pennington. Ada was preceded in death, by her parents, sisters: Georgia Mae Younger, and Bobbie Williams; brothers: Hence Pittman III, Lawrence Bramlett, Eddie Lee Bramlett, Earnest Bramlett, Solomon Bramlett, Kenny Marcelus, and Johnnie Bramlett. Ada is survived by her one and only child,:Eddie L. (Susan) Johnson Sr., and Godson: Maurice A. Brown; Grand-Children: Eddie L. (Ashley) Johnson Jr., Donald L. Johnson Sr., Danyelle N. Johnson, Ebonee L. Johnson, Nashuun “Tia” Varner, Grand-children Aniyah Johnson, Donald L. Johnson Jr., Omir Johnson, Omari Johnson, Halo Varner, and Jhuri Varner; sisters: Laura Lee Griffin, Mae Lee Kelly, Ruby Lee Pittman, Sarah Pittman, and Mancy Pittman, all of Peoria, Illinois, Katie Pittman of Phoenix, AZ, Barbara Bramlett, and Mattie Bramlett, of Chicago, Illinois, and Gennette Bramlett, of Bloomington, IL; Brothers: Henry K. Pittman of Kiwanee, IL, Andrew Bramlett, Lymon Bramlett, Lorenzo Marcelus, Anthony Bramlett, and David Bramlett, all of Chicago, IL: a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Ada, the world’s Greatest Mother, Grand-Mother, Great-Grand Mother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend resided in Peoria, since 1965. She attended Illinois Central College, where she earned an associate degree in Business Administration. She loved to sing, in gospel groups and even sang with Mahalia Jackson, with her older sister, Laura Lee Griffin. Ada was a well-known socialite who loved bingo, bowling, board games, being an Evangelist and sharing God’s word. At the time of her passing, she resided in the Washington Senior Living Nursing Home, In Washington, Il. She always wanted to be close to her sister (Laura). Whenever she would tell you that she loved you, she’d always say “I Love you more than you’ll ever know!” She meant every word! Ada devoted herself to being the best mother possible. Ada was a loving and salty mother-in-law to Eddie’s wives, Susan and ex-wife Valerie. Ada’s radiant spirit is carried on by her son and her family. Ada loved her family and friends with the ferocity of a mother bear. Ada was an exemplary mother figure and human being. She embodied the best qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her family and friends. I can hear her say. When I die, cry a few tears and say a prayer to mourn my death and shame the devil. Then eat a good meal, have a few drinks, and dance to celebrate my life and remember me with joy. A Celebration of Life Service for Ada Johnson will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church (2112 W. Forrest Hil Ave Peoria, IL 61604). Pastor Joseph Cherry will officiate and present the eulogy. Ada will be entombed at Parkview Mausoleum. Arrangements were made especially for the “Johnson” family and professionally directed by T.W.
