Mr. Charley W. Simmons

Charley Willie (Sonny) Simmons of Peoria passed away on April 24, 2025, at 1:12 a.m. at his residence. He was born on February 20,1940 in Dyersburg, TN., to Willie and Mary Simmons. Charley later moved to Chicago, Il at the age of ten and was raised there. Charley later moved to Peoria, IL in 1973 where he met the Love of his life Joangela Simmons and later married her in October 1990. They were happily married for 31 years. Charley served in the Navy and later received his GED. He drove trucks for Browning Truck Company and worked at Caterpillar since 1979 and where he later retired. Charley Joined New Cornerstone Baptist Church where he served on the Usher board and was a member of the Male Choir. Charley was a Community Leader, Softball coach for Blue Note, and Father to so many. Charley was loved by his family and leaves to cherish his precious memories: sons: Charley “Chucky” Simmons Jr. of Chicago, Il, Pere (Robyn) Faulkner of Milwaukee, WI, Issac Simmons, Edmond Simmons, Elander Simmons of Peoria, Il. Daughters: Maria (Bobby) Nesbitt Winbush of Markam, IL, Natasha Faulkner & Tyecha Washington of Indianapolis, IN, Tayo (Terry) Faulkner, Camille (Nick) Richmond, Lacey Simmons, Monique Simmons, Makiya Simmons of Peoria, IL. Siblings: Sherry Simmons of Peoria, IL, Mary Lynn Chambers, Kermitt Simmons, Billy (Gail) Simmons, Andrew (Julia) Carroll of Chicago, IL Eugene (Debroah) Simmons of Orlando, FL; Brother in Laws: Darrie (Connie) Faulkner, Darrell Faulkner, and Bradley Faulkner; God Children: Melvin Rogers, LaJuan Porch, Jada Ivy, Shanita Ivy, and Dynasty Smith; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Charley was proceeded in death by his parents Willie and Mary Simmons, two brothers Turner and Benny Simmons, one sister Nora Browning. Daughters Youlandice & Brianna Simmons. Grandchildren Darryl Miller Jr. & Amarion Lewis Simmons. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at New Cornerstone Baptist Church (3609 W. Harmon Hwy Peoria, IL 61604) at 10:00 a.m. with visitation commencing one hour prior at 9:00 a.m. Dr. Mark McConnell, Pastor will present the Eulogy. Charley will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements were made especially for the “Simmons” family and professionally directed by T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel.
