Mr. Christervill "Sonny" Erving

Christervill “Sonny” Erving, 80, of Peoria departed this life on September 1, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family at 2:15p.m. Christervill was born on February 5, 1944, in Coahoma County, MS to Morris Brown and Canary Erving Williams. Christervill received Christ at an early age. Christervill married the love of his life, his sweetheart, Carrie Erving on November 26, 1991. Through their union they raised their legacy of children and grandchildren who they adored. He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for over 40 years as a forklift operator. We celebrate the memory of a great man, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend who fiercely cherished his family. Christervill was always dependable, honest, hardworking, and dearly loved. His favorite saying was “I love the Lord, and I know how to pray”! Christervill leaves to cherish his precious memories: His loving wife Carrie Erving of 33 years; two sons: Ricky Young and Tommy Lewis both of Peoria; three daughters: Nasali Young of Peoria, Sharon Johnson of Flint, MI, and Tia (Lester) Poole of Altus, Oklahoma; three brothers: Jacob(Jennifer) Williams of Peoria, Van (Carnita) Williams of Clarksdale, MS and William Robbins of Tacoma, WA; five sisters: Sallie Lampkins of Clarksdale, MS, Johnnie Mae Miller of Columbus, OH, Mattie Branscumb , Martha Williams both of Peoria, and Florida (Greg) Chase of Windsor, Canada; one grandchild whom he raised Tanisia Broomfield of Peoria, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Christervill, in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by one son: Charles Carter; two daughters: Sherry Brown and Gladys Marie Brown; two brothers: Joseph Williams and James Williams; one great-grandchild: Bobbi Perkins. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel (201 N. Mac Arthur Hwy Peoria, IL 61605) at 11:00 a.m. with visitation commencing at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Morris Stokes will present the eulogy. Arrangements were made especially for the “Erving” family and professionally directed by T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel. Christervill will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery (914 Pleasant Street Peoria, IL 61604)
