Mr. Courtland L. Tubbs

Mr. Courtland Lee Tubbs, 48 of Peoria, IL transitioned from his earthly home into his eternal heavenly home on May 30th, 2024, at OSF Saint Francis Hospital. Courtland was born on December 4th, 1975, in Peoria to Diane Nelson (who preceded him) and Tommy Tubbs. Courtland attended Peoria Manual High School where he graduated in 1994. And due to Courtland’s extreme talents, he went Division I and attended Indiana State University, where he graduated with a degree in Engineering. Courtland worked for Hunts Construction Management and later worked until the time of his death at Peoria Manual High School as the Head Baseball Coach, Assistant Football coach and previously as a Freshman Boys Basketball Coach and Assistant Boys Basketball Coach. Courtland accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age. Courtland was an All-star! He played multiple sports, was very knowledgeable about sports and excelled in them all. Courtland was known as the “Bo Jackson” of Peoria. Courtland remains the only male athlete from the Peoria Journal Star area to be named Player of the Year in two team sports in the same year. Courtland’s amazing personality, infamous smile, caring spirit and legacy will continue to live on through his wife Chakira (Foster) Tubbs of Peoria, IL; three sons: Alandis of Austin, TX, Avierre and Josiah (whom he adored and was his shadow) of Peoria, IL, one daughter: Audrey of Peoria, IL, one granddaughter: Azarie of Peoria, IL, his father Tommy (Brenda) Tubbs Jr., one brother Eric Tubbs of Kansas, one sister Kelli (Terence) Cheatham of Oklahoma, OK,, two stepsisters; Shawanda (Awine) King and Robin Bryant, and two stepbrothers Robert (Shena) Bryant and Roosevelt (Jessica) Jackson all of Peoria, IL. Courtland also leaves to cherish, one nephew Jeremy (Michelle) Williams (whom he raised), special grandmother Shirley Whitaker; nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly. In addition to his mother, Courtland is preceded by his paternal and maternal grandparents. Homegoing services to celebrate the life of Mr. Courtland Tubbs will commence at 9:40 a.m. with visitation commencing at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8th, 2024, at the Church of the Living God of Peoria. Located at 2815 West Lake Peoria, IL 61614. Pastor Marlon Young will bring the eulogy. Courtland will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery.
