Mr. Michael George Harris

Mr. Michael (Mike) George Harris, 69, of Peoria, IL passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at his home. Michael was born on April 23, 1955, in Peoria, IL to Ruth (Harris) Myles and Raymond Gore. He was a graduate of Manual High where he excelled in baseball. His favorite team was of course the Chicago Cubs, and he also grew to love the Chicago Bears. Every chance Michael got he was outside playing baseball; he was selected for a minor league team. Michael enjoyed drawing and joking around. Every time you saw Michael there was a smile on his face and you knew he was going to crack some type of joke. As Michael got older, he went to work for Sutton Carpets and was sent to Kansas City, Kansas to learn the trade of carpet, tile, and hardwood floor laying which he mastered and made his long-lasting career. He loved laying carpet and tile. Michael could come into your home and look at your flooring and tell you what it needed. He was always happy and compassionate. He was a big brother that got on our nerves sometimes, but he was always there for you. Michael’s work was well known in Peoria and the surrounding areas. Everyone loved him. Michael leaves to cherish his memory: his loving mother Ruth (Harris) Myles of Peoria; Father: Raymond Gore of Peoria; one daughter: Demenika Parker of Peoria; two sons: Michael Ray Wright and Tyrell Lobdell of Peoria. He will be greatly missed by them. Two sisters: Patricia Hurt and Mattie Graves of Peoria; one brother: David Carlton of Seattle, WA; four half sisters Brenda Dailey, Roslyn (Earl) Jones, Carolyn (Roma) Wallace, and Retha Laster; five half brothers : Dallas (Wilhermina) Terry, Orlando Smith, Cornell, James, and Glen Gore all of Peoria; Six grandchildren, three special nephews: Wesley Weatherspoon Jr, Montellomarr Carlton Sr, and Patrick Ross. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other family, and friends. Michael was proceeded in death by three siblings: Sara Carlton, Lisa Carlton and Joseph Carlton; grandparents, one uncle, and three aunts. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024, at T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel (201 N. Mac Arthur Hwy Peoria, IL) at 3:00 p.m. with visitation commencing at 2:00 p.m. Bishop Joseph Johnson and Pastor Vance Jordan will bring words of comfort and Pastor Marlon Young will present the eulogy.
