Mr. Ny'Quavion Martin

Ny’Quavion Martin, 16, affectionately known as “Boog”, of Peoria, IL, transition into eternal life with the Lord, Wednesday, January 12, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Ny’Quavion was born April 23, 2005 in Peoria, IL to his mother Sunyeal Mokua of Peoria, IL. Ny’Quavion attended Sterling Middle and Peoria High School. He had plans to attend University of Michigan majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He was excited to join their infamous football team leading his dreams to the NFL. He was a member of Star of Hope Full Gospel church, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the tender age of 14. Ny’Quavion is proceeded in death by his Grandmother Lucille Jones, his Grandfather Willie “Sonny” Crowder, his Great-Grandmother Mary Jones, and his Great Grandfather Henry Jones. Ny’Quavion leaves to cherish his loving mother; Sunyeal Mokua of Peoria, IL, whom he loved very much. His loving and caring sister Su’Mar Jimoh, his beloved Aunt Bernice Jones whom he loved and lived with. His loving father Vinley Mokua of Kisii, Kenya who helped raise him to be the wonderful young man he was. His loving uncle Keith Jones of Peoria, IL, who inspired him to follow his dreams in their quality time together and always made sure his haircuts were on point. Also, he leaves his memories to his special cousin Fred Lee of Peoria, IL, who he loved to spend time with playing pool and shopping. Ny was an athlete in his own right playing football, basketball, and soccer for numerous leagues locally in Peoria, including Peoria High, Woodruff JFL, Sterling Middle School and Peoria Park District. Boog was a member of the T.H.I.N.K and Skills USA program that’s ran by his mentor, Charles Minier. He also received rewards for completing the Bradley University DAPCEP Stem Program for Breaking the Code. He loved to participate in the Shawn Livingston and Hersey Hawkins basketball camp. He served as an active volunteer in the Peoria community giving out toys at the Toy for Tots and Fundraising for various organizations. Ny’s hobbies included collecting sneakers and exotic cars and in his spare time, he sketched many custom designs of shoes and cars. Ny also loved playing video games, spending time at the park, and dining out at favorite restaurants with his sister, Su’Mar. They loved playing together at the parks and going out to eat at their favorite restaurants. In addition, one of the things he loved doing the most was being with his Auntie Bernice. They enjoyed going to various sporting events, movies, shopping and just spending time together. He also loved going to the movies with his Auntie Evelyn and eating his Aunt Mary B’s food. Ny was a great listener, kindhearted, always willing to help, and loved to talk to everyone. Ny was diagnosed with cancer February of 2021. This was devastating news to him as well as his family & friends. However, because of his faith, Ny knew that God had his back 100%. We remember the moment when Ny was asked by a nurse if he was scared. He replied, “No, I am not scared. I’m ready for whatever God has for me”. He was ready to stand up to fight so our immediate and St. Jude’s family rallied around him to begin to fight alongside him. He started chemo and radiation 5 days a week while attending school every day. Despite him feeling ill, education was very important to him without complaints. As the treatment began to intensify, he fought even harder. He remained a trooper throughout the fight until God called him home. His famous words were, “Cancer doesn’t have me; I have cancer”. During our treatment trips to Chicago, he would share laughter, singing and visiting our favorite spots along the way. Boog leaves to cherish a host of sisters and brothers, aunties, uncles and cousins and special aunts who cared and loved him include Bernice Jones, Evelyn O’Neal, Mary Deloney, and Mary B. Jones all of Peoria, IL. Special thanks to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate Clinic, Ann & Robert Laurie Children Hospital along with their Oncology and Hematology Group. Thanks for all the support, care and love from the doctors and nurses who cared for us in our time of need. Also, a special thanks to his second family, Busey Bank, that loved & supported him. To the Staff at Peoria High and Woodruff JFL…Thanks for always supporting Ny’Quavion in all that he wanted to do. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 11:00am at Star of Hope Full Gospel Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Interment will be Private.
