Mr. Walter J. Artis Sr.

Walter J. Artis Sr., 67, of Peoria departed this life on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Unity Point Methodist Medical Center at 8:05 p.m. He was born on February 17, 1953 in Cuba, AL to Wayne and Minnie (Nixon) Artis, they precede him. He attended Peoria Central High School and played football as a running back, he graduated in 1972. He married the love of his life in 1976, Gloria (Robinson) Artis. Walter was a member of Miracle Revival C.O.G.I.C. where he played the bass occasionally. Walter got hired and was employed at Ameren Cilco as a gas serviceman, and customers gave him serval accolades on his professionalism. Working in 25* below weather helping families stay warm and comforted. Walter enjoyed working in lawn care service where he was able to work in fresh air and not be confined. He gardened and planted fruit trees. Walter loved children, especially his grandchildren. He would often ride bicycles with them. Sports and Western movies were a passion of his. He had a softer side where he rescued a sick and abandoned kitten and his family named it Miracle. Walter leaves to cherish his precious memory: his loving wife of 45 years Gloria Artis of Peoria; Quincy Artis, Valinquis Artis, Walter Artis Jr, and Jobee Artis all of Peoria; LaKora (Lisco) Loyd of Lithonia,GA; ShaOtia Artis of Lawrenceville, GA; ChaWalta Artis, Peaches Artis, Jesakia Artis, Tituia Artis, Rosiekia Artis, all of Peoria; and Daloria Artis of Kennesaw, GA; three brothers: Pastor Jessie (Denayer) Artis of Peoria, Eddie Artis of Santan Valley, AZ; Carlos (Monique) Artis of Gilbert, AZ; five sisters; Amie (Zephrey) Allen of Peoria, Ann(James) Johnson of Kennesaw, GA; Dorothy Artis of Marietta, GA, Linda Artis of Mapleton, GA, and Syretta (James) Taylor of Lawrenceville, GA; twenty-three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends whom will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents Wayne and Minnie Artis Sr. he was preceded in death by two sons: Dewayne Artis and Titus Artis; great granddaughter: Genesys Artis. A Celebration of Life Service will take place Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Holy Temple C.O.G.I.C. 228 W. Webster Street Peoria, IL 61605 at 11:00 p.m. with visitation commencing one-hour prior at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Jessie Artis will officiate of Miracle Revival C.O.G.I.C and Pastor Eddie Davis will host. Due to COVID-19 mandates social distancing and masks are required Walter will be laid to rest at Lutheran.
